Social Studies Course (Samfunnskunnskap)

This online course combines self-study and live digital classes with a teacher. It offers the flexibility of learning at your own pace. The 75-hour course grants you access to the course information for 3 months.

To take the course you need to:

• Understand and speak English at the intermediate B1 level or higher. (The course is taught in English.)
• Use a headset with a microphone and a good internet connection when attending virtual classroom sessions.

The course is organised in 3 modules of 25 hours each as defined by the Integration Act.

• Module 1: Education, Skills and the Labour Market
• Module 2: Family, Health and Daily Life
• Module 3: Norway before and now

Learning objectives

After completing the course you will have knowledge about:

• Essential historic, social, economic, cultural, political events
• Official institutions and current affairs
• Your rights, obligations and opportunities in Norwegian society
• Fundamental principles like democracy, equality, human rights, and free speech.

The requirements to receive a course certificate for the Social Studies course are: 

• Attend 3 online, instructor-led classes per module for a total of 9 classes (9 x 90 minutes) in the virtual (online) classroom. 
• Complete coursework and tasks for all 3 modules. 
• Pass the test at the end of each module with at least 90% correct answers.
